How can we help you?
Dr Paul Trembath and his team firmly believe that patients who are well informed about their oral health make better decisions about recommended treatments—and enjoy better overall oral health. We will never rush you through dental appointments while you are here; we want to take as much time as needed to thoroughly explain proper oral care and available treatments. We love talking about oral health—and we enjoy answering your enquiries.
There are some questions we hear from patients over and over, and we’ve compiled some of those below for your convenience. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions that are not listed.
The entire process of getting a dental implant takes place over a period of several months. The implant surgery itself doesn’t take very much time, but time is needed for the implant to fully integrate into the jawbone.
Here’s how the process works:
- If your dentist determines you have adequate bone density and you are free of gum disease, you can have the implants placed. It is fairly common to have the implant placed immediately after your tooth is extracted. You can ask Dr Paul Trembath if this will be your scenario as well.
- Once we place the dental implant, it takes about three to six months for the implant to permanently integrate with your jawbone. This is called ‘osseointegration.’
- After full integration occurs with the jawbone, your permanent crown will be placed onto the implant abutment.
Although the dental implant process takes place over a period of several months, your implant is designed to last for a lifetime with proper care. Dental implants are generally considered to be the gold standard when it comes to tooth replacement. With permanent dental implants, you will have no food restrictions so you can eat all of your favourites. Caring for them is easy as well; simply brush and floss as you normally would and visit your dentist twice each year for check-ups and cleans.
